Ruan Varney

I was born in Sri Lanka to a loving traditional Buddhist family with generations of Vipassana meditation practitioners.

As a young child, I spent my days in nature, digging gardens and sweeping leaves while watching cows grazing nearby. Those experiences brought me to the deep connection with nature that has shaped me into who I am today.

I am a healer. When I was about 10 years old in Sri Lanka our pet dog was hit by a car. He came running into the house and hid under my bed and would not move. I was the only one who could attend to him. After moving my bed slightly to dress his wound I was able to stay with him to comfort him. What happened next was I rested my hand on his leg for the next few days as much as I could day and night. After some days he came out from under the bed and to my surprise he was completely healed.

The second occasion was in Canada, also with a neighbor’s dog who had a festering wound that would not heal with his regular veterinarian. They were trying many different medications without much success. Then this dog would come to me with an understanding that I would place my hand on his leg and again to my surprise the wound healed in a brief period. 

These two profound incidences lead me to pursue the divine gift of “healing hands” which has taken me on the journey of learning the power of Reiki Therapy to help my family, my friends and eventually the community around me. I am ever so grateful for my Buddhist background to help me understand compassion to people and animals and practice Reili in a very profound way.

Today, I have more than 28 years of experience as a Reiki Practitioner, and over 10 years of practicing as a Reiki Master and Teacher in the Usui system of healing therapy. 

The journey of Reiki healing has taken me from Sri Lanka to Canada to the USA and now to Costa Rica. I have expanded my skills to work with cancer patients in Oncology units in hospitals and many surgical patients to expedite their recovery and get back to their daily life. I have helped people of all ages and ability levels which brings me joy to share the positive reiki healing energies, while taking pride in teaching the Usui method to bring many reiki Master to the world. 

I practice Reiki in my community surrounded by lush gardens the many animals that live around me in this beautiful Costa Rican Forest. I look forward to continuing being of service to my community through sharing the art of Reiki.
